Mother desiring to keep the infant in her room will have assistance from Nursing to:
Provide safe care and continued monitoring of the infant
Encourage the immediate beginning of a family relationship
Assist parents in learning to care for their newborn infant

Infant is stable
Mother is alert, oriented, stable and mobile
Oxygen and suction are available in room
PROCEDURE:
Staff determines that infant is stable.
