It is the policy of this organization that the following procedure will be used in the management of hypotension in post pain management patients.
PROCEDURE:
In patients who are normotensive 120/80 before the procedure:
If the blood pressure remains below 90 systolic for 2 consecutive readings at 2 minutes apart, give 500 cc fluid challenge of 0.9% normal saline IV.
Notify physician immediately.
Monitor blood pressure every 5 minutes.
If blood pressure remains 90 or below systolic, give additional 500 cc fluid challenge. Continue to monitor blood pressure.
