In order to withhold or withdraw life support from a patient, one of the following criteria must be
met:
The patient has suffered brain death. The diagnosis of brain death should be supported by two 2 medical staff physicians, at least one of who should be a neurologist or neurosurgeon.
The physician should document in their medical record the basis of brain death.
The patient should be pronounced brain dead before disconnecting the respirator or ventilator.
