Patients admitted to the ICU with fractures will receive the following care:
Circulation, sensation and function checks to affected limbs q 1 hour x 8 hours, then q 2 hours x 16 hours, then q 4 hours. Notify MD for any change in assessment, including firm or tense compartments.
Assure appropriate cleaning of open wounds associated with fractures and the fractures' stabilization as soon as possible but within six hours of admission.
Maintain proper alignment and traction see guidelines for caring for patient with traction.
Dressing changes as ordered.
