Patient controlled analgesia PCA will be offered to patients as a means of controlling pain when appropriate. PCA requires a physician order for medication and dosages.
Candidates:
Patients with acute post-surgical pain, trauma-related pain, cancer-related pain or any acute pain state where rapid and reliable pain relief via intravenous route is preferred. Age ranges from 3 years with parents operating the button for dosage to elderly patients who may also require family assistance.
