To provide general guidelines for the safe administration of medications.
POLICY:
A physician must give orders for the administration of medications. The order must include the name of the medication, dosage, dilution, route, frequency of administration and rate of infusion. The physician should give orders for anaphylaxis and laboratory work as needed.
PROCEDURE:
The RN shall be familiar with the patient's medical history, the present medication regimen and known allergies to foods and drugs.
